Program 2 of our tribute to Beethoven will feature Yanjue Lin performing with outstanding musicians from the Twin Cities. In this program are the composer’s popular Gassenhauer Trio, his last sonata for piano and cello, and a selection of his underrated yet important and very beautiful songs.

Yanjue Lin

Yanjue Lin is a classically trained pianist. She attended the artist diploma program at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, earned a doctor of musical arts in piano performance from Shenandoah University, and a master of music in piano performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has studied with Santiago Rodríguez and Marika Bournaki, and
has participated in masterclasses with John O’Conor, Anton Nel, Anne-Marie McDermott, Victor Rosenbaum, Jonathan Plowright, Fali Pavri, Roy Howat, and other distinguished artists. 

She is a recipient of the Ryuji Ueno Foundation Emerging Artist Grant. Her performance experience spans international and institutional competition settings, including first prize at the Piano Soloist Competition of the Singapore Chinese Piano Festival, finalist placement in the London Overseas Musicians’ League International Piano Competition, and prizewinner at the A. Ramsay Calder Debussy Prize at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Student Soloist Competition at Shenandoah University. 

In addition to her solo training, she has experience in chamber music and orchestral performance. She served as a piano fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival and the Eastern Music Festival, where she worked closely with faculty artists and fellow musicians in collaborative settings. In orchestral performance, she has performed as a soloist and orchestral keyboardist, including with the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and the Frost Symphony Orchestra under
Maestro Gerard Schwarz.

She currently performs as principal keyboardist with the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra and as a substitute orchestral keyboardist with several ensembles, including the New World Symphony, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and the Rochester Symphony Orchestra in Minnesota. In addition, she is the assistant artistic director of Rochester Chamber Music Society.

Scott Brunscheen

Scott Brunscheen’s “sweet and substantial lyric tenor” (Chicago Tribune) has garnered acclaim in operatic and oratorio repertoire of the baroque, classical, and contemporary eras. A frequent guest soloist with Haymarket Opera, his recent performances of Handel's La resurrezione, Caccini’s La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina​, Haydn’s L’isola
disabitata, Marais’ Ariane et Bachus, and Cesti’s L’Orontea received praise from Opera News, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, and Chicago Classical Review. He recently made his Kennedy Center debut under the baton of Christophe Rousset and direction of Catherine Turocy in the acclaimed modern premier of Mouret's Les Fêtes de Thalie with Opera Lafayette.

Other operatic engagements have included the world premiere of Stewart Copeland’s The Invention of Morel at Chicago Opera Theater, Mozart’s Die Zauberflote with Madison Opera, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen at Long Beach Opera and Chicago Opera Theater, Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites and Donizetti’s La Favorite at the Caramoor Festival, Britten’s The
Turn of the Screw and The Rape of Lucretia with Chicago Fringe Opera, and Rossini’s La Cenerentola with the Lyric Opera of Chicago Lyric Unlimited series. Mr. Brunscheen also understudied and performed in Donizetti's La Fille du Regiment, Puccini’s Tosca, and Heggie's Dead Man Walking (Madison Opera); Glass’ The Fall of the House of Usher, Rossini's Mose in
Egitto, Cavalli's Giasone, and Die Zauberflote (Chicago Opera Theater); Chin’s Alice in Wonderland and Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd (Opera Theater of St. Louis); Rossini’s Guillaume Tell and Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia (Caramoor Bel Canto Festival); Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola and Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Candid Concert
Opera); and Mozart's Don Giovanni with Opera New Jersey. 

Outside of his work in opera, Scott has been the tenor soloist throughout the country for Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel's The Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's The Creation, Pergolesi’s Magnificat, Bach's Magnificat, Resphigi's Lauda per la Natività, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Britten' Serenade and Canticles, and cantatas of Bach, Buxtehude, and Rameau. He can be heard on an album of Agostino Steffani duets "A son tres- humble service"; released on Musica Omnia.

Jennifer Gerth

​Jennifer Gerth is in her 29th season as principal clarinet of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. A substitute with the Minnesota Orchestra since 1995, she also performs with the Minnesota Opera, VocalEssence, Northrup Ballet and Minnesota Dance Theater and other freelance groups. Jennifer performed and toured with the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble
and co-founded The Prospect Park Players, a chamber music group that enjoyed a seven year residency at Hamline University.

​A devoted chamber musician, she has played 25 seasons at the Festival of the Lakes Chamber music festival.
Ms. Gerth is also an avid teacher and clinician and has been teaching at the collegiate level for over three decades. Jennifer currently teaches at the University of St. Thomas, the University of Minnesota and also maintains a private studio. She enjoys running, cooking, yoga, gardening and hatching butterflies.

Patricia Ryan

​Patricia Ryan, cello, has performed with some of the world's leading chamber musicians including pianist Emanuel Ax, the Pacifica String Quartet, violinists Geoff Nuttall, Ian Swensen, Axel Strauss, Wei He, Bettina Mussumeli, violists John Largess, Ivo-Jan van der Werff, Jodi Levitz, Ashleigh Gordon, Peter Slowik, Steve Dann, Max Mandel, and cellists Norman Fischer, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, David Geber, Anthony Elliott, and Natasha Brofsky. She has also collaborated with cross-genre artists including jazz saxophonist Miguel Zenón, guitarist Jeff Beck and singer Tom Jones.

She is actively involved in a wide range of groups, including the Billboard chart-topping Kinetic Ensemble, contemporary music ensemble 10th Wave Chamber Music Collective, and the genre-bending ensemble, Delphia Cello Quartet. She is a founding member of Trio Zenia and from 2017-2024 was the cellist of the Artaria String Quartet. A passionate teacher, Mrs. Ryan is on faculty at Walker West Music Academy.

She is a three-time alumna of the Tanglewood Music Center and has also participated in the Spoleto USA Festival Orchestra, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Chamber Music Program at Domaine Forget and Strings Music Festival.
She has completed a second masters of music at Rice University Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Norman Fischer, an artist certificate in chamber music performance and a masters of music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and a bachelor’s of music at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music with Tchaikovsky Competition laureate Nathaniel Rosen and Alexander Sulieman.

Mrs. Ryan received top prizes in the Plowman, Coleman, and Fischoff Chamber Music Competitions as the cellist in Trio 507 during her first masters studies and participated in the 2017 Robert Mann String Quartet Seminar as a founding member of The Kamila Quartet during her second masters studies. She has also performed internationally in Portugal and China as part
of the Viana de Castello International Music Festival and the San Francisco-Shanghai International Chamber Music Festival.
Additionally, Patricia is a current assistant librarian for the Minnesota Orchestra and was the librarian for the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2012-2015.
